MUNICIPAL PROFILE

The Municipality of Laak is a first-class municipality located in the northeastern part of Davao de Oro. It is bounded by the provinces of Agusan del Sur and Davao del Norte, serving as a strategic link between the Caraga and Davao Regions. The municipality is predominantly agricultural and is characterized by vast plains, rolling hills, and forested areas rich in natural resources.

The original name that the pioneer residents used to call this place even before the very formation of its nucleus in 1965 is no other than the native name LAAK, which derived from the name of a small thornless bamboo planted in what is now Sitio Old Laak by the native chieftain, Datu Biyan Atay, grandfather of the first barrio lieutenant, Datu Pio Atay, of Bario Laak. The said thornless bamboo is similar to but smaller than the bamboo called LUNAS by the Bisayan tribes.

Ripened to townhood, Laak was created into a municipality by virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 23, signed on the 4th day of April 1979.

Laak is home to a culturally diverse population composed of Indigenous peoples (Mandaya, Dibabawon), Migrant settlers (Cebuano, Ilocano, Waray, Boholano), and other ethnolinguistic groups.

To provide an effective and efficient mechanism that promote better quality services through the implementation of simplified requirements and procedures that will reduce red tape and expedite business and unofficial business transaction in the local government.
